Guadalajara could target Guardiola

Mexican side Guadalajara could target Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola when his contract expires in the summer, according to ambitious owner Jorge Vergara.

• Chivas get Johan Cruyff

The side, who are known by the nickname 'Chivas', have already brought Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff in as an advisor and Vergara says that he will back him 100% if the Dutchman thinks that Guardiola would be interested in a new challenge.

"If he [Cruyff] asks for him [Guardiola], we will try to bring him [to Chivas], although it would be complicated," he told AS. "Guardiola is currently making Barcelona into one of the best teams in football history."

Guardiola finished his career in Mexico with Dorados and has yet to decide if he wants to stay on for another season at the Nou Camp. Cruyff has already gone on record saying that the Spanish coach would not leave the club 'in the lurch' but Vergara is hoping that he will be able to make a difference in the calibre of player and backroom staff he can attract.

"It [the signing of Cruyff] was the result of many hours and long shifts," he explained. "We want the best; Johan is one of them.

"We held a lot of talks and although other names were assessed, he was always the first choice for the job. I always had the feeling that this is a direct, clear and a very disciplined man."

Guadalajara overcame the European champions 4-1 in front of 70,080 fans at Miami's Sun Life Stadium in a friendly in August.
