Prandelli fires Euros discipline warning

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has told his players they risk missing out on a place in the Azzurri's Euro 2012 squad if they fail to demonstrate the right temperament on the pitch.

• Balotelli out of Italy squad

Prandelli axed Mario Balotelli from his squad to face USA in a friendly on Wednesday after the Manchester City star was suspended for four matches for stamping on Tottenham's Scott Parker last month.

With six yellow cards and two reds this season, Balotelli's disciplinary record leaves a much to be desired and Prandelli has warned that he cannot afford to take hot-headed players to the European Championship.

"The players know acting like this they risk missing the Euros," Prandelli said. "You can't be in the national squad if you risk leaving the team with 10 men. Enough of this football full of rash reactions and punches, it is a sign of weakness."

Despite a shortage of strikers, with Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi among those sidelined, Prandelli also dropped Roma forward Pablo Osvaldo from the Italy squad after he was red carded for an off-the-ball incident on Sunday.
