Delap wins red card appeal

Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap has won his appeal against the red card he received in Sunday's FA Cup victory over Crawley Town.

Delap was dismissed after just 17 minutes for a sliding challenge on Crawley's David Hunt, though his team-mates were still able to battle to a 2-0 win over the League Two side.

Potters boss Tony Pulis was visibly frustrated by the dismissal at Broadfield Stadium and the club quickly decided to appeal, and the Football Association have now announced the red card had been rescinded.

An FA statement read: "Stoke City's Rory Delap has had his claim for wrongful dismissal upheld. As a result, the three-match suspension handed to him has been withdrawn with immediate effect."

Pulis had said after the game that he was unhappy with the decision.

"There is a big problem within the game in that I think professional people and referees are so far apart in what they see in terms of what are fair challenges or competitive challenges and the bad, reckless challenges," Pulis said.
