Gold Coast reject Bleiberg claims

The in-fighting at troubled A-League club Gold Coast United shows no sign of abating after the club's chief executive rejected former manager Miron Bleiberg's claim that he had resigned.

Bleiberg said he had walked away from his post on Sunday after a high-profile row with club officials over who should captain the side.

Chairman Clive Palmer made 17-year-old Mitch Cooper the skipper for the loss to Melbourne Heart last week and, when Bleiberg described it as a "ceremonial gesture" he was handed a one-match club suspension.

That prompted Bleiberg to announce his decision to quit, only for chief executive Clive Mensink to nip in and claim to have sacked him before he could resign.

"At 6am today, no resignation letter had been received by the club," he said.

"We were scheduled to have lunch today but given some of the comments made over the weekend, it was (clear) Miron wasn't going to come back. As a result the club has dismissed Miron from his position effective immediately."

Assistant Mike Mulvey will look after first-team affairs for the remainder of the season.
