Leverkusen open to Ballack release

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser has revealed the club would be happy to discuss the termination of Michael Ballack's contract.

Ballack, 35, returned to Leverkusen on a two-year deal in the summer of 2010, but his opportunities in the coming months are likely to be limited after a fall-out with coach Robin Dutt.

Ballack said last month that he had no intention of signing an extension, and Leverkusen would be happy to allow him to move on.

"Our contract with Ballack runs until June 30," Holzhauser told Focus. "If he wants to get out early, we can certainly discuss that."

The former Germany international had turned down a move to the MLS last month but his agent, Michael Becker, suggested he would move abroad later in the year. "After his contract with Leverkusen expires, he could go to China, Arabia or the United States," Becker told Spiegel.
