Allardyce rules out England

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce appears to have ruled himself out of the running for the England job, after telling reporters he was focused on achieving promotion from the Championship with the Hammers.

• Redknapp open to England

Allardyce's name has been mentioned alongside that of Harry Redknapp as a potential English successor to Fabio Capello, but it seems the 57-year-old is not interested in national duties.

"My focus is West Ham United," Allardyce said. "We're top of the league and we want to move forward and clinch promotion.

"My thoughts are not on the England job at the moment, they are on West Ham. What we hope for is that it gets resolved as soon as possible."

Allardyce has been linked with the England job before, most notably in 2006 when he was beaten to the post by Steve McClaren.
