Jets thrash Sydney

Newcastle Jets dealt a blow to Sydney FC's finals ambitions with a 5-2 victory at the SFS.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley scored the Jets' opening goal after 22 minutes and Ruben Zadkovich rubbed further salt into Sydney's wound with a wonderful strike seven minutes later.

New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie added a third on 38 minutes before Sydney threatened a fightback.

Second-half goals from Hirofumi Moriyasu and Michael Beauchamp - the defender's first senior goal in an Australian league - got it back to 3-2 before Brockie put the result to bed with his second in the 87th minute and Ali Abbas completed the rout in injury time.

It was the first time Sydney have conceded five goals at home.

Earlier, Melbourne's A-League derby saw Heart and Victory play out a thrilling 0-0 draw at AAMI Park.

It was a result which provided little clarity for either side with their form in question - Heart still winless in their past seven matches and Victory still winless in five under new coach Jim Magilton - but Heart will feel aggrieved not to have taken all three points.

They dominated the first half and had the two best opportunities in the second as Victory were reduced to ten men with Grant Brebner sent off with 15 minutes left.
