Hleb leaves Barcelona

Barcelona have announced that midfielder Alexander Hleb has been released from the final six months of his contract.

• Wolfsburg decline Hleb extension

Hleb, 30, signed for Barca from Arsenal in 2008 for a €15 million fee, but he failed to live up to expectations and in the last three seasons he has spent time on loan at Stuttgart, Birmingham and Wolfsburg.

His time at Wolfsburg was hindered by injuries and he returned to the Camp Nou on December 31 and, with his contract due to expire in June, Barcelona have now announced that an agreement has been reached over the termination of his deal.

Meanwhile, Barca starlet Isaac Cuenca has signed an extension to his current deal until June 2015.

The striker will be given the number 23 shirt after becoming a full member of the first-team squad.
