Baggies sign Ridgewell and Andrews

West Bromwich Albion have completed the signings of defender Liam Ridgewell from Birmingham City and Keith Andrews from Blackburn.

• Morrison questions WBA ambition

Ridgewell, 27, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal and the club have the option to extend it for a further season.

He is capable of operating at centre-back and left-back and becomes West Brom's second signing of the transfer window following the arrival of midfielder Scott Allan from Dundee United.

Ridgewell has not been registered in time for Wednesday's game against Fulham but manager Roy Hodgson is delighted to have brought him to the club.

"We've signed him for the long term, not just for the next game," Hodgson said. "It will be good to have him here. He's been a transfer target since the summer.

"He's a very experienced player. He's left-sided, which is also very useful to us because we don't have many left-sided defenders in the club. He has the added advantage that he is experienced in two positions - left-back and left centre-back.

"He's also used to playing in teams that are under pressure to get results. We're hoping we won't be under that much pressure but, if we are, it will be nice to have someone who has been there before and knows what it's all about."

And Andrews, the Republic of Ireland international, has joined on a free transfer until the end of the season. Hodgson added: "Keith is a player I know well and have admired for several years," he said.

"He's a flexible midfielder who can play in a number of roles across midfield. He will bring experience to the squad and also has a good goalscoring record.

"We're delighted to have him on board as we look to achieve or our primary target, which is to secure a third successive season of Barclays Premier League football."

Meanwhile the Baggies have confirmed that full-backs Gonzalo Jara Reyes and Joe Mattock have both joined Championship club Brighton on loan until the end of the season.

Chilean Reyes is heading back for his second loan spell of the season at the AMEX Stadium having been initially recalled to the Hawthorns shortly before Christmas.
