Bayern, Dortmund maintain momentum

Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben scored as Bayern Munich preserved their place at the top of the Bundesliga with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.

• Blog: The good, the bad, the scrappy

Bayern had to wait an hour before Gomez made the breakthrough against a well-organised Wolfsburg side at the Allianz Arena.

Wolfsburg responded well after going behind, but were unable to find an equaliser as Bayern held on before adding the second in stoppage time through Robben.

Shinji Kagawa scored two goals as champions Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with a 3-1 home victory over Hoffenheim to remain level on points with Bayern Munich at the Bundesliga summit.

The Japan midfielder opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 16th minute and Kevin Grosskreutz doubled their advantage after 31 minutes.

Kagawa put the result beyond doubt with his second goal in the 55th minute, before Fabian Johnson pulled one back eight minutes later for the visitors.

Hoffenheim, who were playing their first match without top striker Vedad Ibisevic following his switch to Stuttgart, have collected just one victory in their last nine matches.

Schalke came from behind to rejoin Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga with a big 4-1 win over Cologne.

Lukas Podolski gave the home side the lead in the fourth minute, but Schalke turned the game on its head in the last half an hour with Ciprian Marica on target twice and Klaas Jan Huntelaar scoring from the penalty spot.

Marc Hoger made it four as Schalke also did themselves a favour in terms of improving their goal difference. Miso Brecko was shown a red card to compound the defeat for Stale Solbakken's side, who fall to within just three points of the relegation zone.

Hamburg bounced back from their loss last week against Borussia Dortmund to win 2-1 at Hertha Berlin and continue their strong run of results.

Marcell Jansen gave Hamburg the lead after 24 minutes and then Mladen Petric made it 2-0 for the visitors in first-half stoppage time. Pierre-Michel Lasogga cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 81st minute for Berlin.

The win got Hamburg back on track after their 5-1 loss last week snapped a nine-game undefeated streak for Thorsten Fink's team. Hertha, meanwhile, are yet to collect a point under new coach Michael Skibbe and are without a win in eight.

Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen shared the points in a 1-1 draw, a result that prevents both teams pulling closer to the group of leading teams in the Bundesliga.

Claudio Pizarro gave Bremen the lead after 29 minutes before Stefan Reinartz equalised in the 57th minute. Werder secured their second straight draw and have seven wins, a draw and one loss at home this season for 31 points. Leverkusen moved to 30 points.

Augsburg and Kaiserslautern remain mired in the Bundesliga relegation zone after sharing four goals in a 2-2 draw at the Augsburg Arena.

Marcel de Jong gave the home team the lead in the fifth minute but Florian Dick levelled midway through the first half before putting Kaiserslautern in front early in the second.

Stephan Hain salvaged a crucial point for Augsburg in the 66th minute to lift the Bavarians off the foot of the table, at least until Freiburg travel to Mainz on Sunday.
