Cabaye targets cup success with Toon

Yohan Cabaye is targeting FA Cup glory at Newcastle, starting with the weekend's Fourth Round tie with Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

• Preview: Brighton v Newcastle

Cabaye, 26, won a league and cup double in France with Lille last season and is confident he can help his team-mates quickly put last weekend's 5-2 defeat to Fulham behind them by getting a good result against Gus Poyet's men.

"I won the French Cup last year, and I want to keep winning cups," Cabaye told the Chronicle. "The spirit has to be right. I hope that we have a similar spirit to what we had at Lille last year. We need to keep going in this competition. We have the FA Cup, and it's a massive objective for us.

"We're ready for this game. All we can do is learn from Fulham, and draw a line through it. We need to keep going in this competition. We know how important it is for the fans, the city and the club - everyone."

The Magpies have been boosted by the news that new signing Demba Cisse and the prolific Demba Ba will return early from the African Nations Cup after Senegal's exit, however, they will still have to do without the duo and Cheik Tiote, until next week.

"It's not an excuse for us," he added. "We have 11 players that make up a good team, and some good substitutes. We don't have to talk about the African Cup of Nations. We have players away but that is football. We knew it was happening, so we get on with it. It's not an excuse having players away."
