Cahill admits to negotiation frustration

New Chelsea signing Gary Cahill admits that he was frustrated by how long it took to complete his transfer from Bolton Wanderers, but is now focused on establishing himself at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill completed his transfer to the Blues on Monday, over two weeks after Bolton initially agreed a fee with their fellow Premier League side. Cahill's contract demands were believed to have been the key stumbling block in negotiations, but the England international insists he never had any doubts the deal would be made eventually.

"It was a little bit [frustrating], probably because it was in the public eye more than it would be normally," Cahill said. "But I never doubted it would be sorted in the end. I'm just happy it got done, and now I can just move forward and start enjoying my football.

"It's been fantastic [so far], I've settled in really easily so I'd like to thank the lads for helping me do that."

When asked why he decided to make the move to west London, Cahill admitted that the chance to fight for the game's biggest trophies played a key role.

"It was a fantastic career opportunity for me to move forward," he added. "You always strive to be at the top of the game and coming to Chelsea gives me that opportunity.

"Every competition they go into they look to win, Champions League football ... and going forward in my career it's a fantastic opportunity that I wasn't going to turn down."
