Guardiola demands Real scalp

Pep Guardiola has his sights set on a first leg scalp of Real Madrid as Barcelona prepare to face their fierce rivals in the Copa del Rey at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

• Madrid's Copa XI that could beat Barca

The Primera Division giants lock horns in the quarter-finals of the competition, with Barcelona seeking revenge after they were defeated 1-0 by Real in last year's final.

Barca also find themselves five points behind Los Blancos in the league, and Guardiola is aware of the task that awaits his side, who triumphed 3-1 against Jose Mourinho's men in the league in December.

"Going to the Bernabeu we must be wise to get through," Guardiola said. "The only way to get a result and have the tie alive is to go to win the game. Madrid are the strongest opponents that we can find. Against Madrid you cannot feel a favourite.

"In sport there are no precedents. It matters what you do at the time. Tomorrow [Wednesday] is a new day and 90,000 people will support a team in white. You have to start again. That's the beauty. This work makes sense because it offers passion."

Guardiola also confirmed goalkeeper Jose Pinto will start versus Real, adding: "I have decided to play Pinto because he deserves it and is an excellent keeper."
