Ghana chief: This is our time

With the likes of Egypt, Cameroon and Nigeria missing out on the competition, Ghana are one of the favourites to win a fifth Africa Cup of Nations crown and the president of the Ghana FA, Kwesi Nyantakyi claims that they are fully focused on their goal.

Ghana last won the cup in 1982, although they were runners-up when Egypt lifted the trophy in Angola in 2010.

"We're ready. We're going for the ultimate," Nyantakyi told Goal. "I also have that strong belief that this is our time. I'm optimistic.

"The players have given the assurance that they are physically and mentally strong to live up to the expectation. Everybody is saying this is our time and it's a strong indication that we are going for it."

The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by an under-strength South Africa side on Sunday in a friendly, but Ukraine-based midfielder Derek Boateng has backed Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic to end the country's 30-year trophy drought.

"He is the right man for the job. He loves and respects the players," said Boateng. "Before a game he tells us victory is for us. This is something only a few coaches will tell their players."
