Hearts players given assurances

Hearts players have been given assurances they will be paid next week.

• Hearts pay December wages

First-team players have experienced major delays in their last three monthly payments but the club have met most of the demands made in a Scottish Premier League ruling made last week following a complaint by the squad.

The final requirement is for the club to pay wages when they are due on Monday and the players expect to receive them early next week following talks with director Sergejus Fedotovas.

Goalkeeper Marian Kello said: "He assured us it's going to be there on time or maybe a day later. Well, it's going to be on time. He is confident it's going to be there so we must believe. It's all that we have.''

Manager Paulo Sergio also trusts the club to pay on time.

Speaking at the club's pre-match media conference ahead of Saturday's visit of St Mirren, Sergio said: "I'm confident now. He brought us a positive message but I was positive before.''

Sergio added: "I don't know if it's going to be one or two days late or one or two days before, we have to wait and see.''
