Roar keep A-League faith despite draw

Brisbane Roar captain Matthew Smith holds no grudges over his luckless penalty that cost an A-League win.

Brisbane's 1-1 away draw against Adelaide United on Saturday night hinged on Smith.

The Roar skipper collided with Reds frontman Bruce Djite and tripped, falling into striker Sergio van Dijk in the Adelaide box.

Van Dijk converted the 78th-minute line-ball penalty awarded by referee Ben Williams which countered Issey Nakajima-Farran's earlier close-range strike at Hindmarsh Stadium.

"The first instance, I thought I slipped and fell to ground, was bundled over," Smith said.

"Afterwards, a few of the boys and staffers said I was tripped.

"But sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't - we didn't get it, so that is football."

Brisbane coach Ange Postegoclou said ref Williams didn't have a good day.

But he remained faithful in the form of his second-placed team, despite a relatively-barren stretch of one win in six outings.

"I was pleased with the performance but disappointed the players didn't get the reward for their efforts," Postecoglou said.
