Ebanks-Blake feels result was fair

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake believes a goalless draw was a fair result as Wolves were held by Birmingham in their FA Cup third round tie at St Andrew's.

Ebanks-Blake was guilty of a glaring miss as Wolves had to settle for a replay in their derby clash when he squandered the best chance of the game midway through the second half when he shot over with the goal at his mercy.

Blues keeper Colin Doyle made a superb save in injury time to keep out a header from Wolves substitute Steven Fletcher after Matt Jarvis hit the post.

"It was unlucky but it was probably a fair result in the end," Ebanks-Blake told ESPN. "We've always had a mean defence. It was a good game and 0-0 was a fair result. I should have done better with the second chance but as long as I'm getting chances I'm happy.

"The replay is there so we have to deal with it."

Birmingham defender Curtis Davies acknowledged that both sides struggled to produce an attacking threat during the match.

"There were limited chances for both teams and I thought Sylvan might have nicked it and a double save from Doylo at the end kept us in it," Davies said. "A replay's not what we wanted. I think they had the clearer cut chances but we had more in and about their box.

"With the early kick-off time I think a 0-0 was inevitable."

Birmingham manager Chris Hughton was satisfied his side was able to match Wolves but said the prospect of a replay left him frustrated.

"I think we did very well," Hughton told ESPN. "We restricted them to minimal chances. Apart from the save I can't think of a clear-cut chance they had.

"Our approach play leading into the final third was good. They're a strong defensive team and made it very difficult for us. I think it was inevitable it went to a draw.

"This is the worst possible result. I can't speak for Mick but it's one we didn't want. We set our team up knowing we were against a Premier League team. We set it up quite well, we had some tired legs at the end but we set our team up to win the game.

"The positives are we played against a Premier League team today and on annother day could have won. We matched them in all areas.

However, despite the chances missed by his side, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was pleased to still be in the draw after a tough trip to St Andrew's.

"It was solid rather than expansive and brilliant but we haven't had a clean sheet since Aston Villa so we have to take the positives out of that," McCarthy told ESPN. "I'm pleased that we've got a draw so we'll take them back to Molineux and we're in the FA Cup.

"Without any disrespect they're playing in the Championship. Maybe we had chances that we could have done better with and maybe Birmingham weren't as ruthless as other teams that have come up against us.

"An extra fixture is fine. I'm pleased that we're in it. It's not an easy place to come to just because we're Premier League team."
