Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed Michael Ballack will leave the club at the end of the season, with a move abroad likely for the former German international.
Ballack, 35, is out of contract in the summer and is said to be keen on finishing his career outside of Germany, with China rumoured to be a possible destination.
"I signed on here for two years and it was clear for both parties from the very beginning that it was only planned for this period of time,'' Ballack said. ''I then intended to do something different.'
''I am not going to give up playing altogether,'' he added. ''I have never said that. I still have six more months to consider my situation and I will do that without any pressure.''
Ballack has scored twice in 13 Bundesliga appearances this season, and helped his team set up a Champions League last 16 tie with Barcelona.
