Sydney-born Wellington captain Andrew Durante is considering playing for New Zealand after agreeing to a new three-year deal with the A-League club.
The former Newcastle defender, who won a premiership with the Jets in 2008, has been a consistent performer for the Phoenix since crossing the Tasman four years ago.
And his close relationship with All Whites and Wellington coach Ricki Herbert could see the 29-year-old pin his colours to the New Zealand mast if the opportunity arises.
"It isn't something I would push for, but at the same time I would never say no if I've not made the Australian team," Durante said.
"The big thing with Ricki is that he understands people. He knows that different players need handling in different ways."
