No contact from Anzhi for Hiddink

Guus Hiddink has been linked with a return to management at the helm of big-spending Anzhi Makhachkala, but his agent insists that he has not had contact from the Russian club.

• Capello lawyer laughs off Anzhi link

Hiddink, 65, has been out of work since leaving the Turkey post in November and has experience of Russia having worked with the national team for four years until 2010. However, his agent Kees van Nieuwenhuizen insists that his client will not be moving to Anzhi.

"Guus has been on vacation in Africa since last week. He will return only in mid-January, and will make up his mind about his future when he returns," van Nieuwenhuizen told Sovetsky Sport. "He will choose one of the offers he has already received. No one from Anzhi approached me and I had no contacts with this club."

Fabio Capello and Carlo Ancelotti were mooted as replacements for Anzhi's current joint caretaker-coaches Roberto Carlos and Gordeyev Andrei Lvovich a few months ago, but that shortlist has been tempered with Russia B team coach Yury Krasnozhan currently favourite for the position.

Earlier this week, the Russian club's newly-appointed general director Alan Soziyev said that they expect to name their new boss before the New Year.

"I'd like to tell our fans - please be patient. We're practically decided on the new head coach," he said. "We just have to iron out the last legal details. Hopefully, we'll name the new coach before the New Year. We shall have more staff changes in the very near future."
