Mark Hughes 'scratching my head' by time added on after Stoke concede late

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes expressed bafflement at the timekeeping that allowed Man United to score a 94th-minute equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 draw.

Thanks to Juan Mata's first-half own goal, the Potters were ahead for much of the game, only for Wayne Rooney to deliver a dramatic free kick to secure both a point and United's all-time goals record.

But Hughes believed that the game should have already been over by that point and complained that Mark Clattenburg chose to add on five minutes.

"When you get to 94, 95 minutes, I am scratching my head in terms of the referee and where he got the five minutes from," Hughes said.

"The sooner they get someone in the stand with a stopwatch to take the timekeeping away from the referees the better in my view, but that is for another day."

Stoke managed two 1-1 draws against United in the Premier League this season, and Hughes said his club had to look at the positive despite the late disappointment.

"You get to that late stage in the game and you think you are going to win it, and when you concede, it feels like a defeat," he said.

"But we'll wake up in the morning and realise we have had two games this season against Man United, home and away, and we haven't been beaten, so we'll take credit for that."
