Charlie Adam signs new contract at Stoke City

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam has announced he has signed a new contract.

The 29-year-old Scotland international, who penned a four-year deal when he joined the Potters from Liverpool in summer 2012, revealed the news on Saturday lunchtime.

Stoke later confirmed that the deal ties Adam to the club until 2017.

Potters chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website: "We are delighted that Charlie has decided to extend his stay with us. It's clear to see he's enjoying playing under the management of Mark Hughes and feels at home at the Britannia Stadium.

"Charlie is a big fans' favourite and I'm sure they will be pleased as we are that he is staying for at least another two years, if not longer."

Meanwhile, Scholes has told The Sentinel that he remains hopeful that Steven Nzonzi will also sign a new deal.

The 26-year-old, Stoke's player of the year, has been linked with a move away with one year remaining on his current deal.

"In terms of Steven, and other members of the squad, we are talking and are in constant touch with the representatives and the players themselves," Scholes said. "The same goes for Asmir [Begovic].

"Steven's a great footballer, and obviously player-of-the-year, and we would dearly love to keep him, but we will see.

"We don't want to be losing players of quality like Steven, but that's not always in our hands."
