Reims dismiss Jean-Luc Vasseur after Lille loss

Reims have parted ways with head coach Jean-Luc Vasseur following a poor run of form which has left them just above the Ligue 1 drop zone.

The move comes following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Lille, their third straight 3-1 loss, which has seen them tumble down the table.

Reims, as expected, made an announcement regarding Vasseur on Tuesday afternoon, with his assistant Olivier Guegan being handed the reins until another manager is appointed.

A short statement on the club's official website read: "Stade de Reims announce on Tuesday, April 7, the decision to lay off their coach Jean-Luc Vasseur.

"His deputy Olivier Guegan will manage the professional team during this period."

The Ligue 1 club finished 11th last season, but a run of just one league victory from their last 10 matches has left them struggling in 16th place, just three points above the relegation zone.

Vasseur succeeded Hubert Fournier last summer after his predecessor took over at Lyon but the 46-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain youth coach has failed to build on their promising form earlier in the season.
