St Etienne fined for fans' conduct against Man United in Europa League

St Etienne have been fined €50,000 by UEFA's disciplinary body following the behaviour of their fans during last month's Europa League clash with Manchester United.

The charges were related to the setting off of a firework, throwing of objects and improper conduct of supporters at Old Trafford.

United won the match 3-0 thanks to a hat trick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Jose Mourinho's side then wrapping up a 4-0 aggregate victory in the round-of-32 tie.

It is not the first time trouble has flared off the pitch in a meeting between the two sides.

United faced St Etienne in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1977, when the second leg was moved away from Old Trafford following incidents during the first leg in France.

A neutral venue was required and officials eventually settled on Plymouth Argyle's Home Park -- 281 miles from Manchester.
