Sporting Kansas City to get Tim Melia injury update on Monday

Sporting Kansas City will know the status of goalkeeper Tim Melia's injury on Monday, according to coach Peter Vermes.

Melia, who has been one of the league's top keepers this season, went down without contact in the 57th minute of the club's 1-1 draw at Minnesota United on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Melia was helped off the field and replaced by backup Andrew Dykstra.

Speaking after the match, Vermes said of the injury: "I think he got a cramp...that's all I know at the moment. We'll know more tomorrow morning."

Melia had played every minute for Kansas City before exiting on Saturday. But Vermes expressed confidence in his reserves should the former Real Salt Lake man be forced to miss more time.

"We have a good goalkeeper core so if somebody has to step up, then that's the way it is. That's why you have a roster of more than 11 players," Vermes said.
