Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on trial at Sporting KC

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is on trial at MLS club Sporting Kansas City as he tries to revive his career.

Frimpong has been without a club since leaving Russian side Ufa in April following a three-year stint and, according to the official MLS website, he began a trial at Kansas City on July 27.

Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes told SB Nation said the club wants to assess the Ghana international's fitness before making a decision about whether to sign him.

"We are trying to look at where he is now. I don't care what the past was; it's where he is now. We're taking a look at him, just taking a look at him," Vermes said.

Frimpong is looking for a new challenge after seeing a once-promising career stall over the last few years.

He came through the Arsenal academy and made his Premier League debut in 2011 at the age of 19. But he never established himself as a regular and had loan stints at Wolves, Charlton and Fulham before leaving for Barnsley in 2014, where he was released after just four months.

A hard-tackling defensive midfielder, Frimpong earned the adoration of some Arsenal fans for his aggressive approach and his attitude, but failed to make the grade under Arsene Wenger.
