Murcia fail; Spanish Segunda back on

La Liga newcomers SD Eibar are excited by the challenge of competing in La Liga for the first time in their history, but head coach Gaizka Garitano knows survival is a huge challenge.

Spain's Segunda Division is set to start on Saturday as planned after a second Madrid court ruling said the league's authorities were within their rights to forcibly relegate Murcia to the third tier for not fulfilling their financial obligations.

Thursday evening's ruling appears to put an end to what has been a long-running boardroom and courtroom saga, with Mirandes getting a reprieve and staying up despite finishing in the drop zone last year.

A different judge had last week ruled that the La...

La Liga to use vanishing spray

Referees used vanishing spray at the 2014 World Cup.

Spain's football federation (RFEF) has approved the use of vanishing spray to be used by referees in the country's top two divisions from next season.

Referees also use the canned substance -- which has been used in professional leagues across South America for...

With Las Palmas winning 1-0, and less than two minutes of stoppage time left, several dozen home fans invaded the pitch which forced the game to be delayed for around 10 minutes.

When play restarted, Cordoba made one last push that ended with Ulises Davila scrambling the ball...

Deportivo coach Fernando Vazquez secured promotion at the first attempt.
Deportivo coach Fernando Vazquez secured promotion at the first attempt.

Deportivo La Coruna secured promotion back to the Primera Division with a 1-0 victory over Real Jaen on Saturday.

- Segunda Division table

Carlos Marchena scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute to see Deportivo, who were relegated in 2012-13, back into the top flight.

Their success was unexpected given the off-field problems facing the club at the start of the campaign, when they were threatened with demotion to the third tier in a dispute over unpaid wages.

Depor will now look to finish...
