Barcelona B coach Gerard Lopez sacked amid relegation fears

Barcelona have sacked Gerard Lopez as the coach of their reserve team as they face relegation from the Segunda Division.

Gerard, whose side have not won since mid-February, will be replaced by Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, who led the under-19 team to the UEFA Youth League title on Monday.

Barca B are 20th in the 22-team league on 37 points, and with four teams relegated to the Segunda Division B, they are two points from safety with six games remaining.

They have lost their last five games and drew the previous four, with their last victory coming on Feb. 18 -- a 2-1 win at Lugo.

A former Barcelona midfielder, Gerard was appointed Barca B coach in July 2015 and led them to promotion after winning the third-tier title last season.
