Zidane receives coaching diploma

Sergio Ramos has been impressed by Gareth Bale's quick adjustment to life at Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane has completed another step on his way to becoming a head coach by graduating with a diploma in sports management from a prestigious French university.

Zinedine Zidane has much to teach Gareth Bale, on and off the pitch.
Zidane has begun his coaching career at Real Madrid.

Rigg: Defending Real's defence

Zidane, 41, regularly talks about his ambition to be a manager one day while saying he wants to take his time and learn his trade -- and is currently an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Earlier this week, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said he would welcome the former Girondins star back to the club as their boss one day if the time was right.

The 1998 World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner has shown his seriousness about this career path by taking the course at the Centre for the Law and Economics of Sport in Limoges -- and former Leeds and France midfielder Olivier Dacourt broke the news of the pair’s graduation via twitter on Thursday.

According to the Limoges institution’s website the two-year course prepares students for much of the off-field work involved in running a professional sports team, with subjects such as "Legal statutes of the professional club" and "Psychology and human management related to the professional team."

The website says: "It is recognised by a diploma from the University of Limoges, equivalent to four years further education after the Baccalaureate, which makes it possible for former (or current) high-level athletes and trainers to acquire competence in the law, economics and management applied to professional sports activities.

"The general manager finds himself at the interface of the 'sporting' and the 'administrative' and has to possess not only specific technical skills that result from top-level experience, but also solid knowledge in the aforementioned areas."

Laurent Blanc and Raymond Domenech, both former coaches of the France national team, are also graduates of the course, as is Zidane's former World Cup and European Championship-winning teammate Emmanuel Petit.
