Bojan, 22, has spent the past two seasons on loan in Serie A with Roma and AC Milan, where he struggled to make an impact.

Real Betis were reported to have been close to signing the player on loan, but he now heads to the Eredivisie, where he will be coached by former Barca player Frank de Boer.

A statement published on Barcelona’s official website on Saturday morning read: “FC Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam have reached agreement for the loan of Bojan Krkic to the Dutch club for the 2013-14 season.

“The Catalan striker, who will be 23 this August, will play under ex-Barca man Frank de Boer, who led Ajax to the Dutch title last season to guarantee a place in next year's Champions League.”

Bojan had spent four seasons in the Barcelona first team after making his debut as a 16-year-old in the 2007-08 season under Frank Rijkaard, scoring 26 league goals at a rate of one every 158 minutes for Barcelona.
