Liverpool close to Aspas transfer

Iago Aspas is expected to complete his £7.7 million move from Celta Vigo to Liverpool after undergoing a medical on Tuesday.

Celta Vigo went through in dramatic circumstances
The deal for Aspas had been briefly held up

The 25-year-old striker arrived on Merseyside on Monday after cancelling a holiday in the Caribbean to help the deal go through more quickly. He has agreed personal terms.

Liverpool agreed a fee for Aspas at the end of May, but the move was held up because of an outstanding bonus payment due to him from Celta after he had helped them avoid relegation from the Spanish top flight on the final day of the season.

Aspas, who can play as a main forward, a second striker or out wide, broke into Celta’s first team in 2008, having graduated from their youth set-up.

He scored 12 goals in their first campaign back in the Primera Division after five years in the second tier, and had reportedly been a target for Valencia and Swansea as well as teams in Portugal and Italy.

He will become the second signing of the summer for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who has agreed to bring out-of-contract Manchester City central defender Kolo Toure in on a free transfer.
