Alexis Sanchez hits back at critics

Alexis Sanchez says he is not worried about critics or transfer speculation, as he is one of the best players in the world and happy to stay at Barcelona.

Sanchez has not always been the favourite of Camp Nou fans since his €35 million move from Udinese in summer 2011, and regular speculation in the Catalan media has linked him with a return to Serie A next summer.

This week Mundo Deportivo claimed his agent Fernando Felicevich planned to attend Saturday’s Inter Milan v Juventus game and discuss a potential move with both clubs while he was there. The Chilean international, 24, who missed his country’s 2-0 home win over Uruguay on Tuesday night through suspension, said there was nothing to such talk.

“I am very happy at Barcelona,” Alexis said. “I know the player I am, I know I am a great player, I know I can win games for you. I feel important with the national team and also with Barcelona.”

A mediocre goalscoring record for the Blaugrana - just five goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season - has led some in Catalonia to say he is not really Barcelona-class, with some spectacular misses bringing whistles from supporters inside the Camp Nou in recent weeks.

‘Kid Marvel’ said any critics should understand that there was a lot more to his game than just goalscoring.

“I am not a player who will score three or five goals per game,” he said. “I give passes, and also score sometimes. I am not really a penalty box goalscorer, but I know I am still one of the best players in the world.”
