Piazon looks forward to Malaga chance

Lucas Piazon has said he is looking forward to showing what he can do after joining Malaga on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

Malaga announced the signing of the 18-year-old Brazilian attacker – who has found opportunities hard to come by at Stamford Bridge since joining from Sao Paolo last January - on Wednesday.

Piazon, who cost the Blues a reported £10 million, appeared twice in the Capital One Cup and once in the Premier League, when he missed a penalty during December’s 8-0 win over Aston Villa.

After training with his new team-mates on Thursday, Piazon said he was happy to joining the Costa del Sol club and eager to get more game time.

“Malaga are in a great moment right now,” he said. “I decided to come here because they are a big club. I was told they were would receive me well and I would be happy - that is why I am here.

“I hope to have a chance to play. I spoke to [coach Manuel] Pellegrini quickly yesterday. I want to play and to help the team. I can play on the left or right wings or as a midfielder - I have no preference.”

Piazon, free to play for Malaga in the Champions League, said he was happy to be united with countryman Julio Baptista but batted away comments that his style of play could be compared to that of Kaka.

“Julio Baptista has spoken very well about the club in the Brazilian papers,” he said. “He helped me at training. It is good to have players around who speak Portuguese, to help me fit in from day to day.

“The comparison with Kaka is always there as we played for the same club [Sao Paolo] in Brazil. It is nothing bad for me.”

Malaga, who are set to appeal against UEFA’s decision to ban them from European competition for a season because of financial problems, do not have much money to spend this January.

However, Los Boquerones sporting director Mario Husillos said he hoped they could bring in some more players to add depth to the squad this month, saying: “We are in the market, looking at a few different positions.

“The most easy way to look at it is to see if we have two players for each position, and we do not have that at the moment.”
