Xabi Prieto scores as Real Sociedad remain perfect; Real Betis edge Celta

Xabi Prieto was on the scoresheet in his 500th appearance for Real Sociedad as the Basque side saw off Villarreal 3-0 to make it two wins from two at the start of the new La Liga season.

Prieto, who has spent his entire career with his home-town club, became the fifth player to reach the milestone for Sociedad and the 33-year-old marked the occasion with a goal.

The Sociedad captain's strike came either side of first-half efforts from Willian Jose and Juanmi as the hosts had the points all but wrapped up by half-time at Anoeta.

Willian Jose opened the scoring in the 25th minute following a corner, the Brazilian striker netting the rebound after visiting goalkeeper Andres Fernandez had parried his first effort.

Then came Prieto's moment, the veteran playmaker netting on his big night nine minutes later after Villarreal failed to clear another corner. Prieto had earlier received an ovation from the home fans in the 10th minute -- his shirt number.

Sociedad's third goal on the stroke of half-time was the pick of the bunch, Juanmi latching onto a long ball forward before lobbing the helpless Fernandez from the edge of the box.

Villarreal could find no way back after that as they slumped to a second defeat of the campaign as Sociedad celebrated their second victory, having beaten Celta Vigo away first time out.

Like Villarreal, Celta are still looking for their first points of the season after going down 2-1 at Real Betis.

Summer signing Maxi Gomez put Celta in the 10th minute with his third goal in two games, but Betis hit back to take the spoils.

They drew level through Sergio Leon's 31st-minute effort before Morocco defender Zouhair Feddal -- like Leon a recent addition to Betis' ranks -- netted a 77th-minute winner.
