Jose Gaya strike earns Valencia all three points away at Espanyol

Jose Gaya's second-half goal gave Valencia a 1-0 away win at Espanyol on Saturday.

For several weeks both teams have had nothing but pride to play for, hovering around mid-table, and Saturday's fixture had a real end-of-season feel about it.

A game of little goalmouth action and few chances was settled after 75 minutes when 21-year-old defender Gaya scored with a left-foot shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Espanyol could not muster a response and slipped to a third straight home loss, following defeats to city rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while Valencia secured back-to-back wins.

Osasuna climbed off the bottom of the table and above Granada with a 2-1 home win over Tony Adams' team.

Both sides have already had their relegation confirmed but it was competitive nonetheless. Jhon Steven Mondragon put the hosts in front midway through the first half but Adrian Ramos headed Granada level just before half-time.

Kenan Kodro scored a 74th-minute winner to give Osasuna a first win in six matches while Granada's winless run reached 12 games -- 11 of them defeats.
