Spain and Real star Sergio Ramos: 'I am in the middle of my career'

Spain defender Sergio Ramos is adamant he still has "many years left" in football despite his 31st birthday fast approaching.

The Real Madrid centre-back has been a key figure at the Bernabeu since joining from Sevilla back in 2005, contributing solid defensive displays and match-winning goals along the way.

For his country, Ramos is expected to earn his 142nd cap, which would leave him just 25 shy of Iker Casillas' Spanish record.

And speaking ahead of Spain's friendly against France in Paris, RamosĀ told a news conference: "I am in the middle of my career.

"I have many years left at a good level. Each season I reset myself to start from scratch, not settling for what I've already won.

"As long as I continue to want to win, both in the national team and in the club, I will continue playing. I hope it's the longest possible time -- I see it [retirement] far in the future."

Spain boss Julen Lopetegui will rely on Ramos to slow down France's powerful attacking line consisting of the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and new call-up Kylian Mbappe.

However the former Porto manager added his side must also focus on what they do best.

"Let's play thinking only about us," he said. "We have a lot of respect for France, but the most important thing is to maintain the style, our football.

"We always face the game with confidence. We are aware of the strength of France, but we have our chance, we can play well."
