Javier Mascherano likely out against Atletico Madrid; Arda Turan available

Javier Mascherano returned to training on Friday but is not expected to be fit for Barcelona's game against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

However, Arda Turan will be available for Luis Enrique's side's clash against his former side at the Vicente Calderon.

Argentine international Mascherano came on as a second-half substitute against Atletico as Barca reached the Copa del Rey final earlier this month, but ended the game with a hamstring injury.

Barca never confirmed how long he would be sidelined for, but he was able to join in with part of Friday's session at the Ciutat Esportiva.

Sunday's game against Atletico will likely come too soon for him, though, with Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti expected to start in the middle of the Blaugrana back four.

But Turan is back in contention after picking up a groin injury in the build up to the 6-0 win over Alaves on Feb. 10.

The Turkish international has been back in training for a while now and will be given the all-clear to face Atletico, although he's likely to start on the bench.

Other than Aleix Vidal, who is out for the season with a dislocated ankle, Luis Enrique has no other injury problems going into one of the biggest games of the season to date.

Real Madrid's loss at Valencia on Wednesday has given Barca renewed hope as they look to chase Zinedine Zidane's side down at the top of the table.

Madrid still have a one-point advantage, but they now only have one game in hand, as opposed to two, and have a tricky game themselves this weekend as they travel to Villarreal.
