'Terrible' that Sevilla fans jeer Ramos, but he can't make demands - Alves

Dani Alves has said he does not believe Sergio Ramos is in a position to demand respect from Sevilla supporters but believes it is wrong that the Real Madrid defender is jeered when he returns to his old club.

Ramos, who left Sevilla for Madrid in 2005, saw his relationship with fans of his hometown club radically deteriorate earlier this year.

After scoring a penalty in the closing stages of a Copa del Rey game in January, the centre-back cupped his ear to celebrate after receiving abuse from the crowd throughout the match.

When the two sides met again in La Liga later in the month, chants were again aimed at Ramos, who made 50 appearances for Sevilla in all competitions.

"It's a delicate matter," Alves said in an interview with ABC in which he also criticised the Barcelona board.

"I think it's terrible that Ramos is subjected to insults, but at the same time he may not be in a position to make these demands from the fans regarding respect," he said.

"The problem is that just a few days before moving to Madrid, he declared eternal love for Sevilla, and that is what's generated the ire that the fans hold towards him.

"He's still a slave to those words."

Ramos bemoaned the treatment he received from Sevilla fans in January, complaining that Alves and Ivan Rakitic, players who left the club for Barcelona, are treated better when they go back.

"I've been coming to the stadium for years and they have never received me how I would have liked, like they do to others," he said.

"I would like them to receive me in a different way, but I know it will not be like this. Players like Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic, they receive them like Gods."

However, Alves pointed out that he had spent much longer with the club and helped them win a number of trophies.

"Ramos didn't make that much history with Sevilla to not celebrate goals or to ask for forgiveness when scoring," he added.

"I was there for six years and won plenty of titles."
