Lionel Messi salvages Barcelona draw; Atletico bounce back to beat Osasuna

Lionel Messi scored in the second half to salvage a 1-1 draw for Barcelona at Real Sociedad on Sunday, while the hosts had a winner incorrectly ruled out for offside.

Sociedad had nearly all the scoring chances in the first half, though they only managed to fire off-target or put in soft shots that Marc-Andre ter Stegen handled.

So it did not come as much of a surpise when Sociedad took the lead in the 53rd minute. Mexico international Carlos Vela ran in on goal and although Ter Stegen stopped his shot the rebound fell to Willian Jose to head in, and Gerard Pique on the line could not keep it from going in.

But the lead lasted only six minutes until Neymar dribbled down the wing and centred the ball for Messi, who took a touch before lashing home the equaliser.

Sociedad should have had the winner 15 minutes from time when Vela slammed a shot against the underside of the bar, and Juanmi was wrongly adjudged to be offside when he followed up to tap the ball into the net.

The result leaves Barca six points adrift of leaders Real Madrid through a third of the season before El Clasico next weekend, while Sociedad moved into fifth.

Diego Godin and Kevin Gameiro scored within two minutes of each other as Atletico Madrid bounced back from their derby disappointment with a 3-0 La Liga victory at Osasuna.

Diego Simone's men were defeated 3-0 by rivals Real Madrid at home last weekend, seven days after losing against Real Sociedad, but they got back on track domestically with a comfortable win on the road.

An early penalty save from Jan Oblak prevented them from falling behind, and Godin -- on a header following a corner -- and Gameiro found the net in the 36th and 37th minute.

Yannick Carrasco then slotted slotting under Nauzet Perez in stoppage time to leave struggling Osasuna in the relegation zone.

Ibai and Victor Camarasa struck first-half goals as Alaves recorded a surprise 2-0 victory at high-flying Villarreal.

Winger Ibai slotted in from close range with eight minutes played after Deyverson's header came back off the left post following a right-wing cross from Edgar.

Villarreal, who were fourth going into the game, fell further behind when midfielder Camarasa, on loan from Levante, doubled the advantage in the 19th minute, seizing on some woeful defending by Argentine Mateo Musacchio to poke the ball past Sergio Asenjo.

Celta Vigo maintained their fine home form with a 3-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Granada as Iago Aspas shone again.

Aspas scored his 10th goal of the season in just 17 games to set the ball rolling before setting up 21-year-old Belgian Theo Bongonda to find the net for the first time this term.

Although Artem Kravets pulled one back, a stoppage-time effort from substitute Pape Cheikh Diop stretched winless Granada's run to 13 games without victory.
