Cristiano Ronaldo scores three in Madrid win, Atletico see off Malaga

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Real Madrid moved three points clear at the top of La Liga with a 4-1 win at Alaves.

It was Alaves who took a shock lead at the Estadio Mendizorroza inside just seven minutes through Deyverson, only for Ronaldo to equalise from the spot 10 minutes later after Deyverson had handled in the box.

Madrid soon took the lead with Ronaldo grabbing his second, this time hammering a low shot from outside the area into the back of the net.

Ronaldo missed the chance to complete his hat trick from the spot in the second half, before making amends for that miss late on -- firing home with a low strike after Alvaro Morata had scored Madrid's third with a clever chip.

Rafinha scored the only goal as Barcelona moved up to second in with a laboured 1-0 victory over struggling Granada at the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian struck in the 48th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Neymar hit a post, as Barca finally made their dominance of possession count against the bottom side.

Luis Enrique's men struggled to create meaningful chances throughout, with the normally clinical Luis Suarez enduring a particularly frustrating night.

Yannick Carrasco and Kevin Gameiro both struck twice as Atletico Madrid beat Malaga 4-2 in a clash that saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Carrasco and Gameiro were on target as the hosts took an early 2-0 lead at the Vicente Calderon but Sandro Ramirez pulled a goal back.

Gameiro's second seemed to put Atletico back in command but Stefan Savic's dismissal gave Malaga an opening and Ignacio Camacho set up a potentially tense finish.

However, Carrasco eased home nerves after 86 minutes and Malaga's night ended with a red card for Gonzalo Castro.

Sevilla missed the chance to record their best start to a league season after being held 1-1 by Sporting Gijon on another frustrating trip to El Molinon for the Andalusian side.

A victory would have left high-flying Sevilla with 23 points from their opening 10 games -- more points than they had ever previously managed at this stage of a campaign -- and that looked on the cards when Luciano Vietto fired them ahead inside four minutes.

However, Moi Gomez levelled things up midway through the first half with a fine volley and Sevilla could not find a second goal which would have earned them a sixth successive win in all competitions.

The result continues Sevilla's disappointing run at El Molinon, which had seen them lose six of their last eight meetings with just one win -- back in 2009.
