Morata vows to battle Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo for place at Real Madrid

Alvaro Morata is determined to give Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane a difficult decision to make once Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are available for selection.

Ronaldo and Benzema have missed Madrid's opening two La Liga games through injury, allowing Morata to start in both alongside Gareth Bale.

Portugal captain Ronaldo has recovered from a knee injury that he sustained during the Euro 2016 final triumph over France, while Benzema has been out with a hip problem. They trained this week with the team and could play in Saturday's home game against Osasuna.

Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo combined for 98 goals in all competitions for the club last season.

"They [Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo] are the best players in the world but I will fight to try to play and give everything to make the choice difficult for the coach," Morata told AS.

"In all the top clubs there is competition and at Madrid even more. My dream is to triumph at Madrid and if I didn't think I could do it, I would have gone to another team where I would have played a lot more."

Morata returned to the Bernabeu this summer after Los Blancos activated a buy-back clause to re-sign the 23-year-old from Juventus for €30 million. He had been linked with a move to England with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly keen to acquire him.

"I came back because I wanted to succeed at Madrid and I'm going to fight for a place," he said. "This is why I returned.

"During the season, there are players that have suspensions, injuries although we hope there aren't that many. I hope Zidane makes rotations because it would be good for everyone as players would be allowed to rest and others would play."

Ronaldo started in 48 games for Real last season but struggled with muscular injuries at the end of the campaign.

Morata, who scored in the 2-1 home win over Celta Vigo before the international break, netted twice for Spain in Monday's 8-0 triumph over Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier.
