Spanish Football League (LFP) president Javier Tebas has not ruled out La Liga matches being postponed this weekend because of extreme hot weather. A late summer heatwave has hit the Iberian Peninsula, with temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius (104 Farenheit) in many areas on some days. Mid-afternoon games, which include Celta Vigo vs. Atletico Madrid and Osasuna visiting Real Madrid on Saturday, are most at risk. "If the temperature [at the weekend] reaches 40 degrees we could postpone some La Liga games," Tebas told Cadena Cope. "You cannot play a game of football with temperatures of 36, 37 or 38 degrees. "We have discussed the heat issue, not just because of this weekend but because of the previous rounds. "Real Madrid played their last game against Celta [on Aug. 27] with a temperature of 32 degrees." The third round of La Liga games kicks off when Real Sociedad host Espanyol in San Sebastian on Friday evening. But Tebas said: "The problem has been that, in the evenings, the temperature hasn't dropped much. "We have spoken to the referees' committee to make sure the players can drink water to cope with the conditions."
