Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti: Camp Nou debut a dream come true

Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti has said he had never wanted to visit the Camp Nou before playing in it.

Umtiti, 25, always harboured hopes of joining the Spanish champions -- and he got his wish when he made a €25 million switch from Lyon last month.

The France defender featured at the Camp Nou for the first time as Barcelona beat Sampdoria 3-2 in a friendly on Wednesday.

"I was impatient to play my first match," Umtiti told L'Equipe.

"I realised a dream [on Wednesday]. I never wanted to visit this stadium, because I promised myself that if I had to come here it would be as a player.

"This match was good preparation in view of our game against Sevilla [ in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday]."

Umtiti played the last half hour against Sampdoria and is unlikely to start against Sevilla.

But he said he was happy to bide his time, adding: "I came here to learn. Barcelona is an exceptional club.

"My objective is to perform well when the coach calls on me and to win as many trophies as possible this season."
