Quique Sanchez Flores appointed new Espanyol coach

Former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores has been appointed as the new coach of La Liga side Espanyol.

Flores has agreed a three-year contract with Espanyol and will be unveiled as their new boss at a news conference on Monday.

An Espanyol statement read: "Quique Sanchez Flores will be the Espanyol coach for the next three season after an agreement between the coach and the club was reached in the last few hours.

"The same as Angel Gomez, new sporting director of the club, Quique Sanchez Flores will sign for three years [2019], consolidating the beginning of Espanyol's sports project in this new and exciting stage for all our fans.

"Espanyol is proud to incorporate a successful and prestigious coach and to lead the first team in this new project."

The Spaniard parted company with Premier League club Watford at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, despite keeping them in the top flight and taking the team to an FA Cup semifinal.

Flores has previously in charge at a number of sides including Valencia, Benfica, Atletico Madrid and Getafe.

Espanyol finished 13th in La Liga last season, parting company with Constantin Galca in May.
