Lionel Messi creates 'goals out of nothing' for Barcelona - Mendilibar

A rampant Lionel Messi was labelled "impossible'' to play against by Eibar coach Jose Mendilibar after the Argentina ace inspired Barcelona to a 4-0 win over the Basque side by creating "goals out of nothing."

Messi's wondrous pass lead to Munir El Haddadi putting Barca ahead after just eight minutes and the reigning FIFA Ballon d'Or winner scored his first goal of the game before the break with a sweeping run and arrowed shot into the bottom corner.

Messi then added a third Barca goal with an audacious Panenka penalty before Luis Suarez completed the scoring late on -- the 100th goal for the feted "MSN" partnership of Messi, Suarez and Neymar, who was suspended for the match.

"When Messi is playing it's impossible, he creates goals out of nothing,'' Mendilibar told a news conference.

The Eibar coach was also in awe of Barcelona, adding: "I wasn't surprised by them, but there's something about watching them up close. They never miscontrol a pass, in that sense they are superior to every other team.

"But what amazes me most is their defensive work. They can defend with six or seven players and leave three players up front.''

The impressive display at Eibar came just three days after Barca won 5-1 at Rayo Vallecano. The win represented an 11th straight league victory and a 36th successive game without defeat in all competitions.

But Luis Enrique insisted his team would not become complacent in the remainder of the season.

"We won't get distracted by thinking we're champions before we are. There are 30 points left to play for, the team knows that,'' the coach told a press conference.

"In Vallecas [against Rayo] we played a spectacular game, but today I think we were better, more solid, more complete.

"We played very well against a tricky rival away from home, we have overcome their pressure and barely let them create chances. Our players are playing very well and enjoying what they do.

"When they play at this level, it's hard to stop them. We are in this situation thanks to our hard work, nobody has given us anything on a plate.''

Barca defender Gerard Pique also insisted his team would not let their guard down despite their lead at the top of the table.

"There are still plenty of games to go and we haven't won the league yet,'' Pique said.

"There are 10 games left and we have to wait and see what our rivals do. We will try and win all the games we have left so we can win the title as soon as possible, but these wins will mean nothing if we don't win the trophies.''
