Barcelona's Luis Suarez: Stamp on Aymen Abdennour was an accident

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has insisted his stamp on Aymen Abdennour was accidental as the Valencia defender highlighted the incident on social media.

Suarez and Abdennour clashed off the ball early in the second half during the 1-1 draw at Mestalla, with referee Jaime Latre stopping play to speak to both players but taking no action.

TV replays appeared to show the Uruguay international had pushed his studs into the Tunisia centre-back's boot as they jostled for position near the penalty area with the ball far away, although it was not clear if there was intent.

Abdennour, who reacted angrily at the time of the incident, later posted a picture of his injured foot on Instagram and wrote: "#Suarez"

Suarez, who got away from Abdennour to score the opener for Barca soon after the incident, told reporters that he had not deliberately sought to injure his opponent.

"I stood on him by accident," Suarez said. "I got hit a few weeks ago by accident too -- these things happen on the pitch. It was without realising, and I apologised already."

At his postmatch news conference, Barca coach Luis Enrique was asked both about the Abdennour incident and whether Suarez was offside when he scored.

"I'm not MacGyver," Luis Enrique said, in reference to the TV secret agent. "I can't see everything and do everything. I've still not seen the goal, or the incident. I am good, but not that good."

Suarez had to serve out the remainder of a four-month ban for biting when he joined Barcelona in the summer of 2014 but the former Ajax and Liverpool star has so far avoided any such controversy during his time at the Camp Nou.
