Cristiano Ronaldo warned by Dani Alves about attracting attention

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has suggested Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo hogs the limelight too much for his own good.

Despite being Madrid's prized asset, Ronaldo, 30, was jeered by supporters during their 4-0 Clasico loss to Barcelona on Saturday.

Such treatment has heightened speculation about the Portugal captain's future in the Spanish capital, and Alves, 32, believes he partly brings it on himself.

"I continue to see Cristiano as top-quality player. But maybe the problem is that he has too much personality, he is too much the protagonist," Alves said in a news conference.

"When you are too much the protagonist, they always talk about you. But when you lose, you have to eat it, they focus on you and it is all your fault. But I don't really care what they do or don't do."

Alves featured in Barca's emphatic victory over Madrid, but played down the result and warned his side not to become complacent because of it.

"In my career I have learned that victories make you weak," Alves said. "They make you believe and think things that aren't true. It is great to have the three points, but the goal is still at the end of the season. If you don't win the titles you end up just looking silly.

"We did everything better, writing the page for a sensational match. We left our opponent with no options. The 6-2 [Clasico victory for Barca in 2009] was one with lots of back and forth, an exchange of hits.

"But this was more controlled and that is why we are so pleased. What we want is for our fans to enjoy it and I think we did that."

Alves added: "When we got the third goal we wanted the fourth and so on. We learned this with Pep Guardiola and what it means is that we are showing respect for our opponent by not easing up. That is how you show respect for your opponent."
