Cristiano Ronaldo steps up training

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is continuing to make progress in his recovery from a knee problem but is still training individually, AS.com has reported.

- Ronaldo battling to be fit for Super Cup
- Court blocks Bernabeu renovation

Ronaldo has been kept out of most of Real's preseason programme as a result of the tendinosis he began to suffer towards the end of last season, although he made a substitute appearance in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the U.S.

The Portugal skipper is aiming to return to the lineup when Madrid take on Sevilla in the European Super Cup in Cardiff on Aug. 12.

Key European club fixtures

French Ligue 1 -- Aug. 8
FA Community Shield: Manchester City vs. Arsenal -- Aug. 10
German Super Cup: Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich -- Aug. 13
English Premier League -- Aug. 16
Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid -- Aug. 19 and 22
Spanish La Liga/German Bundesliga -- Aug. 23
Italian Serie A -- Aug. 30

He has increased the intensity of his training regime, and Madrid hope he will be ready to begin training with the squad soon.

Speaking before the game against United in Michigan on Saturday, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had said Ronaldo would not feature.

"He is working hard, but we won't put him out tomorrow," he told a news conference.

"He will begin training with the squad [in Spain] after the tour as we plan to use him in the Super Cup."
