La Liga to use vanishing spray

Referees used vanishing spray at the 2014 World Cup.

Spain's football federation (RFEF) has approved the use of vanishing spray to be used by referees in the country's top two divisions from next season.

The spray, which was given worldwide exposure at the World Cup this summer, is used to mark the distance between the ball and the defensive wall at a free kick, making it harder for the defending side to encroach before the ball is kicked.

Referees also use the canned substance -- which has been used in professional leagues across South America for many years -- to show exactly from where the set piece should be taken.

Spain is the second country in Europe to adopt the use of this spray; last week the Italian Federation announced its approval.
