Martino: Barca pressure too much

Former Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has said the pressure to live up to Pep Guardiola's achievements at the club was too hard to handle.

Martino left Barca after just one season in charge after they failed to win La Liga, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey.

Speaking in a joint-news conference alongside Guardiola, in Buenos Aires, Martino paid homage to his predecessor's work but also lamented the legacy of that success.

"Pep's Barcelona was the best team in all history," he said. "The comparison was never positive. At Barca, winning wasn't enough.

"At Barcelona, if you won it was thanks to the players and if you lost it was my fault. It was hard to continue.

"And when the players back their coach in public it's nice at the time, but you soon grow weary."
